ORACABESSA BAY COMMUNITY SUPPORT INITIATIVES
Oracabessa, a charming coastal town on Jamaica's north coast, boasts a rich history, vibrant culture, and natural beauty. Named after the Spanish "oracabeza" meaning "golden head," it features stunning golden beaches and headlands.
Historically, Oracabessa thrived as a bustling banana port. Over time, it evolved into a notable tourism and cultural heritage spot. Key to this transformation is Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, who purchased GoldenEye, the former home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Fleming wrote all 14 Bond novels at GoldenEye, now a luxurious resort drawing visitors worldwide.
Blackwell's impact extends through the GoldenEye Foundation, which supports the Oracabessa community. The foundation's Oracabessa Bay Fish Sanctuary restores marine ecosystems, promotes sustainable fishing, and boosts eco-tourism. The foundation also supports local schools, farming, sports, youth coding and educational programs, and other community projects, fostering opportunities and preserving Oracabessa's heritage.
Oracabessa's blend of history, beauty, and community spirit continues to captivate all who visit, showcasing sustainable development and cultural preservation in Jamaica..
